When I first heard that Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward were releasing an album, I didn't quite know how to react. Sure Zooey's voice in Elf was amazing, but could she actually turn it into a solid album with one of the more consistent acts to come out of the indie rock underground?
I couldn't have been more happily surprised then when I first heard this album. With 60s influences all over this album, Zooey does a great job of using her voice as an instrument that accompanies M. Ward's arrangements. This album is excellent, and here's to hoping that they continue with a Volume 2.
